The Journey Man

The Journey Man

I was inspired to paint The Journey Man as I have always admired the beautiful Carousel Horses at the funfair. In this painting, one of the horses has escaped with a mysterious masked man. They are on an magical journey across the town.   This painting took many hours to complete, using alkyd oils and glazes, to achieve the rich and intense colour. I am fascinated by the elaborate masquerade costumes and masks, which allows me to escape into my imagination when it comes to painting them.

Contemplation

Contemplation

This painting portrays a beautiful young girl, perhaps considering her journey into womanhood. She is surrounded by vibrant butterflies which may also be interpreted as the metamorphosis of what the young girl is experiencing.

Girl in a Winter Hat

Girl in a Winter Hat

I was inspired to paint my partner in her winter hat, that I gave her one Christmas. As I had always admired her hat’s incredible detail and richness of colour. But it isn’t just a hat that keeps her warm on a frozen day, it is a reminder of all the sunny winter walks on the beach, memories of laughter, and recognising love in the smallest of gestures.

Self Portrait with Masks

Self Portrait with Masks

This is my most recent self-portrait of myself that I painted sat in my art studio. In the background there is a wall which is usually covered in various research materials, photographs and images of paintings from the past. In this self portrait, I tried to capture the hidden depths of myself that are usually hidden from the world. It provides an opportunity to practice techniques and to really look at ones self, whilst studying shape and form.
