Lowestoft Skyline a room with a View
As part of the theme ‘Lowestoft Skyline’ this painting ‘A room with a view’ is partly a true and an imaged view from my art studio During the lockdown, I have often been drawn to looking through my studio window at the goings-on and people watching more than usual. I have painted several compositions that are relevant to the Lowestoft skyline and I am always searching for different perspectives that inspire me.
The Minotaur and the Clockwork Boy
This painting portrays a minotaur with a clockwork boy, having tea and cakes. In Greek mythology, the ‘minotaur’ is a fabulous monster. I was thinking about male energy, the positives, and negatives of it. Positive – fireman, negative – a bully. The boy could evolve either was. He is a biological clockwork boy. The head-on a stick is the last person to psychoanalysis the minotaur.
The Boy who is Happy to be Himself
I was inspired to paint this as reading is such an important pastime to me and engaging young people is much more difficult with such advanced technologies. St Peters Flats in Lowestoft stands tall in the background and is one of the outstanding views from my studio, with many old tenements and memories of old cobbled streets and imagined people
